Jesus Is Here

‘The Lord is here…’. Well yes, but sometimes we’re not aware. A quiet song for congregation or solo.

This song was one of a couple that came out of an afternoon of quiet prayer and meditation at our church. I was struck by an image of Jesus in the distance. It’s early morning, and he’s returning in the dawn light from prayer in the local hills, half hidden by the mist. But it’s not mist that keeps us from having a clear view of Jesus.

1. Jesus is here, born in a shed,
Word of the Lord, learning to speak.
Herod’s men chase him away.
Come back home.
Come back home, let us hear you again.

2. Jesus is here, crossing the lake,
Teaching his friends, taking a nap.
Waves and the wind rock the boat.
Calm the storm.
Calm the storm, let us hear you again.

3. Jesus is here, anointed in love with costly perfume –
Its scent fills the air.
Then his accusers move in.
Hush the noise.
Hush the noise, let us hear you again.

4. Jesus is here, nailed to a cross,
Still sharing the truth with those at his sides.
Gives up his spirit at last.
Speak once more.
Speak once more, let us hear you again

5. Jesus is here, he whispers in prayer,
He speaks in our friends, he sings in our songs.
Sometimes his voice becomes lost.
Still our hearts.
Still our hearts, let us hear you again.
