Has the title for chart success, but sadly no luck yet! Seriously though, I just heard the phrase ‘looking out for number one’ one day, and it set me thinking about our priorities.

I’m walking by the shaking tin when I have money I could spare,
I’m leaving all the work to others when I know I should be there,
But when it comes to him or me
I know which one it’s going to be.

I’m always pushing to to that train seat when I know that I should stand,
I’m leaving childcare to my wife when I should really lend a hand.
It isn’t always black and white
But I just know that it’s not right

Number one, I’m looking out for number one.
Number one, I’ll carry on like I’ve begun,
I’m looking out for number one.

But there’s another number one who wants to raise my eyes to him
And slowly make me into someone who his spirit dwells within.
Creator of the universe,
It’s him that I’ll be putting first.

Number one, I’m looking out for number one.
Number one, The Father, Spirit and the Son,
I’m looking out for number one.

The first will be last
And the last will be first
In God’s Kingdom.

Number one, I’m looking out for number one.
Number one, From early morn ‘til day is done
I’m looking out for number one…
I’m looking out for number one.
Number one, In pouring rain or warming sun
I’m looking out for number one.
