This is the first song I wrote – for a double baptism of some friends’ children a couple of years before we started our own family. As I write now we have four children at home and I would probably touch upon the challenges of parenting if I were writing this song today!
On the baptism of Rachel Leeson and Frances Cloke, 14th October 1990
Lord, we promise for this child our (these children)
Constant loving, lasting care.
Make us faithful in this service
That she in your peace may share. (he, they)
Thank you, Lord, for all your children,
Hold them in your love.
Thank you for the joy they bring us
In so many different ways,
And for all the things they teach us,
May we learn with them each day.
Thank you, Lord, for all your children,
Hold them in your love.
So we pray your blessing, father,
On this little one today. (these little ones)
Be with her in times of trouble, (him, them)
Give her courage on the way. (him, them)
Thank you, Lord, for all your children,
Hold them in your love.
