I’m not the first to explore the idea of the Magi’s journey as a metaphor for our own. In fact the idea for this song came from a Christmas card I once received, which used phrase ‘Wise Men Still Seek Him’. Despite the way in which ‘man’ has traditionally used to mean men and woman, I would normally avoid language that can be seen as gender-specific… but the phrase was too good not to pick up on here.

Modern Magi we should be,
Seeking Christ continually.
On our journey we may find
What it is to know his mind.

Wise men still seek him, travel from afar,
Find in him the truth within,
The light that lit the star.

Like those kings of old we are,
Guided by the Spirit’s star
Leading ever nearer God
We shall take the path they trod.

Wise men still seek him…

So we come with gifts of gold,
What a sight we there behold.
Finding in that holy place
Gifts of healing, wisdom, faith.

Wise men still seek him…
